I think I have heard of this but hadn't heard that they're actually selling boxes. Interesting, but it's $7 a kW for capital costs (compared to solar which is $4 a kW and has no fuel cost). The thing about fuel cells is that they're expensive and they still run on fossil fuels, so that it's not really true that they generate no emissions, they just don't generate any downstream emissions. REgardless, it's a step in the right direction and these things should get cheaper and cheaper. Would be great to suplement a residential solar array and/or wind power for times when it's dark and there's no wind!
That was exactly my thought. If demand can increase enough to lower costs to more affordable levels, would be a great thing to have in a house to balance out solar and wind use peaks and troughs.
